Sublime's self-titled album, also known as Sublime, was released on July 30, 1996. The album cover features a photograph of the band's lead singer, Bradley Nowell, lying unconscious on the floor after taking a heroin overdose. The photo was taken by photographer Michael Happoldt and was chosen as the cover image by the band's members. The album cover has been controversial due to its graphic nature and the tragic circumstances surrounding Nowell's death just months before the album's release. Despite this, the album has been praised for its ska, punk, and reggae-infused sound and has become a cult classic in the alternative music scene.
